BRADBURY, Ray - Ice-Cream Suit

London, The Amalgamated Press, 1959. Wraps. pp. 41 to 58.small 8vo,A short story in the British magazine ARGOSY published May, 1959,Written when Bradbury was 39, and published in the British literary monthly magazine ARGOSY (not to be confused with the American men's magazine, of the same name). Included are nine other stories by H. E. Bates, Michael Gilbert, David Walker and Christopher Landon et al, along with cartoons (144 pages in all). The first appearance of the story was in The Saturday Evening Post, Oct. 4, 1958, under the title: 'The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit'. The first appearance - in book form - came in April, 1972, when it was published as a paperback by Bantam (SP7297) under the general title of THE WONDERFUL ICE CREAM SUIT AND OTHER PLAYS (one of a trilogy of plays - the first hard cover edition came out the same year, in England). The short story appears to have kept roughly the same storyline as the play, and is illustrative of the development of an interesting concept in the author's mind. Clearly, this story is a seldom-discovered gem and would be a unique acquisition by any science fiction or Bradbury collector. The front cover is a bit curled, and slightly edge-worn. The spine is creased but not excessively so. The contents are slightly age-darkened, as is to be expected. Except as noted, this magazine is tight, clean and in very good condition. .
